Hey guys.
As I've had multiply requests to help people getting started editing, I've decided to make this little topic about the basics of how to get started.
As for how I work, I'm using 150 fps clips, to make it as smooth as possible, I've tested around with 250 fps aswell, but doesn't seem to be any better.
Recording:
Fraps 30 fps
Ingame 30 fps
timescale 0.2 (cheat protectd, use devmap to get access to this command)
vdub 150 fps (save as .avi)
Drag and drop your clip into vdub, goto "Video" - "Frame rate" - "Change framerate to:" - 150.
After that go to "File" - "Save as .avi"
You won't be able to use the sounds from the clips you've added 150 fps to, so either you'll have to record each clips 2 times, 1 time with timescale, and 1 time without timescale.
Or you could download this COD1 soundpack, and manually add the sounds within sony vegas

Attention: 9 sec clip = 5,36 GB
My latest cod1 fragmovie was 489GB, all together with clips, music, intro, outro, demos.
Im not entirely sure whether or not it's possible to compress these to another file type, so you won't be working with so heavy files, might be possible, might not be, I don't know, you'll be able to figure that out yourself.
Sony Vegas:
Project Properties:
Template: HDV 720-30p (1280x720; 29,970 fps)
Width: 1.280
Height: 720
Pixel aspect radio: 1,0000 (Square)
Frame rate: 29,970 (NTSC)
Full-resolution rendering quality: Best
(rest stays as the default settings)
(properties setup for 720p on youtube, i never bothered going above 720p)
When adding a clip to the timeline, make sure to right click it, go to properties
and untick "Maintain aspect ratio" (makes fullscreen)
and tick "Disable resample" (makes the clip smoother)
Rendering:
I personally used to render as uncompressed .avi
then using Easy H264 to compress it to mp4, so you'll be able to upload it on youtube.
(this technique might be outdated by now)
Rendering as normal .wmv file in a newer version of sony vegas, might be better than this solution, play around with it yourself, to figure out what you like the most.
Useful ingame commands for recording:
By aking 2 binds for con_gamemessagetime, you'll be able to add only the things you want in the killfeed, for example avoiding to see that a person picks up a healthpack, by setting it to 0, and changing it back to 30000 whenever he is about to get another kill.
It's quite annoying to do while recording, but it's worth it in my opinion, if you want the outcome to be as good as possible.

- Makes everything look a bit more interesting in my opinion.
In case you've got problems with cod1 crashing when recording, it's because there's a few fraps versions that are not compatible with Call of Duty 1 for some reason, don't ask me why..

/cg_chattime 0 (disable ingame chat)
/cg_fov 90 (higher field of view)
/cg_drawgun 0 (can be used for making cinematics, removing hands/weapons)
